چکیده

We demonstrate the existence of an eÆcient block cipher with the property that whenever it is composed with any non-perfect cipher, the resulting product is strictly more secure, against an ideal adversary, than the original cipher. We call this property universal security ampli cation, and note that it holds trivially for a one-time pad (a stream cipher). However, as far as we are aware, this is the rst eÆcient block cipher with this property. Several practical implications of this result are considered.

Stream ciphers and the eSTREAM project

Stream ciphers are an important class of symmetric cryptographic algorithms. The eSTREAM project contributed significantly to the recent increase of activity in this field. In this paper, we present a survey of the eSTREAM project. We also review recent time/memory/data and time/memory/key trade-offs relevant for the generic attacks on stream ciphers.

A Time-Success Ratio Analysis of wPRF-based Leakage-Resilient Stream Ciphers

Weak pseudorandom functions (wPRFs) found an important application as main building blocks for leakage-resilient ciphers (EUROCRYPT’09). Several security bounds, based on different techniques, were given to these stream ciphers. The security loss in these reduction-based proofs is always polynomial, but has not been studied in detail. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we present a clear ...

Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis of Reduced-Round Midori64 Block Cipher (Extended Version)

Impossible differential attack is a well-known mean to examine robustness of block ciphers. Using impossible differ- ential cryptanalysis, we analyze security of a family of lightweight block ciphers, named Midori, that are designed considering low energy consumption. Midori state size can be either 64 bits for Midori64 or 128 bits for Midori128; however, both vers...

A new method for accelerating impossible differential cryptanalysis and its application on LBlock

Impossible differential cryptanalysis, the extension of differential cryptanalysis, is one of the most efficient attacks against block ciphers. This cryptanalysis method has been applied to most of the block ciphers and has shown significant results. Using structures, key schedule considerations, early abort, and pre-computation are some common methods to reduce complexities of this attack. In ...

The Security of Elastic Block Ciphers Against Key-Recovery Attacks

We analyze the security of elastic block ciphers against key-recovery attacks. An elastic version of a fixed-length block cipher is a variable-length block cipher that supports any block size in the range of one to two times the length of the original block. Our method for creating an elastic block cipher involves inserting the round function of the original cipher into a substitution-permutati...
